Often memories of a unique experience in a specific place, usually in a natural environment, are the spark for my ceramic work. I create from my reflections of those places and try to capture the emotion of the moment that I felt in that space. Through sketches and test pieces, ideas are explored before I create the final piece. All of my ceramic pieces are hand built with a strong emphasis on surface design. By altering the clay surface with sgraffito, carving, painting or stamping with custom stamps that I sculpt and carve, I create one-of-a-kind pieces that connect users in a tactile way to the natural environment that inspired them.
