2026 Participating Artists

My jewelry designs flow from creative play with materials, sketches, the colors of metal and gems with textures and balanced asymmetry. My current watercolors explore my impressions of places and atmosphere through work with mineral pigments and other water media. I am intrested in inviting others to visit my studio to talk about the creative process.

Idelle Hammond-Sass

Not your traditional open studio, Brenda Oelbaum is a political activist artist who works across painting, performance, photography and installation art to create works that push the boundaries on issues of social justice, representation, and discrimination, to provoke thought, feelings, dialogue and active participation.

In November 2026’s A2StudioTour Oelbaum will introduce visitors to her newest installation that invites the viewer to more deeply experience, process and question issues related to food and eating, embodiment, appearance, and self-image at a time of year when holiday and new year messaging, expectation and influence around food, weight, and shape is at its peak.

Bring an unwanted diet book to donate to the Venus of Willendorf Project, go home with a small souvenir of the project or of another past work.

Paintings, both abstract and representational, from tiny 6”collages to large 60” canvases.
Wire and yarn sculptures, upcycled glass pieces, photographs, greetings cards and notebooks.
Addressing climate catastrophe and our planet with love, care and beauty.

As a fairly new resident of Ann Arbor, I’ve renovated our garage into a studio. Inspired by years of participating in studio tours in Washington, D.C. and Virginia—where I had the rewarding experience of engaging in wonderful conversations which included sharing my process, receiving valuable feedback, selling work and receiving commissions—I suggested to Idelle Hammond-Sass, who also has a new home studio nearby, that we start a tour here. I’m delighted to continue that tradition and help build something meaningful in our community!

Margot S. Neuhaus

I’m in love with watercolor. I’m a watercolor cheerleader.
Often when I visit a show or museum, there’s a magnetic pull of a painting. Inevitably it will be a watercolor.
Watercolor is considered the easiest and most difficult medium. Why?
What makes watercolor magical, surprising, defy your expectations?
I’m excited to explore those questions and the magic of watercolor with you.

Ann Arbor Artist, Rocco Pisto earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Eastern Michigan University in 1974 and has been painting for over five decades. He is the current President Emeritus of the Michigan Watercolor Society and holds both a Signature Member and Great Lakes Fellow designation in that group. He also holds membership in the National Watercolor Society, International Society of Experimental Artist (ISEA), the Brighton Art Guild and Chelsea Painters.

Rocco’s artist statement:

“As a painter for over fifty years, I never tire of the experimental process of starting a piece and solving the design problems along the way to make it a finished work. Spontaneity, discovery, individuality, analysis, visual balance, contrast, and contradiction all summarize my thought process. I find that no two paintings are the same, and I cannot paint the same thing twice. My technique of painting abstractly by dripping, pouring, splashing, and brushing paint allows the work to evolve until it meets my criteria of what constitutes a successful piece of art. The adrenaline of marking pristine, white Arches Watercolor paper with paint is a euphoric process that never loses its newness or interest.”

Working with an iPhone, I embrace photography as an immediate, portable and versatile creative medium. Travel--both domestic and international--continues to sharpen my eye, while the light, textures and everyday surfaces of Ann Arbor keep me inspired and grounded in close observation.

AD Lenhardt has been working with clay professionally for over 30 years. After decades of running studios and helping others create their art, the focus is now on her own work. This opportunity to share space with her long-time friend, Leslie Sobel, and participate in the city wide open studio is an enriching connection to the community.
A passion for both ceramics and watercolour defines her work. Aerial photographs taken on a flight over the surrounding farmland serve as inspiration to create tile work. Using various porcelains and handmade or found tools, she stamps images of local landscapes into the clay. The tiles are then painted with various techniques before the final fire. Her watercolours on paper continue the exploration of color and translucency.

Anne Rogers, Twirling Frog Studio
Michigan native, Ann Arbor based fused glass artist Anne Rogers, Twirling Frog Studio, has been working with glass for 17 years. With a lifelong interest in art she has worked with many mediums but upon her introduction to glass her passion was ignited. Her work includes fused and slumped glass wall sculptures, functional tableware and fun home accents. Anne’s creative evolution includes welding which allows her to customize sculptural pieces. Her creations are composed of art glass made of a vast color pallet which are hand cut, fused and formed using precise firing conditions to achieve harmony and balance in each piece. Her use of color and shape allow everyday items such as trees and birds to take on a contemporary flair. She continues to improve her techniques and style allowing the properties of glass to shape the final piece. Her love and passion of nature inspire many of her creations. Her work can be found in several galleries in Southeast Michigan where she also teaches classes and workshops.

It’s a joy to invite people into my studio which is set up both as a gallery and working space. Come for a visit to chat about my process and the 3 week residency in Provence, France this Spring that inspires much of my recent work.

As a self-employed graphic designer for over 50+ years, I understood how objects affect space, how colors communicate, and how graphics can be used to affect emotions without ever using words. About 1998 I transitioned to web design, and my graphics background put me miles ahead of the technical internet designers of the time.

Now I am a retired business owner and I decided it was time to come back to my love of abstract art. I found joy in the “unexpected” and serendipitous results of mixing paints into new combinations, painting and dying and spattering to create new textures, and allowing my construction to wander off in its own direction – as if it had a mind of its own.

There’s plenty of room for you to enjoy discovering and interpreting my artistic adventures – so I hope you will join me at my studio.

Connie Pickering Stover

I am a watercolorist focusing on landscapes and seascapes in soft, transparent hues but also really enjoy creating quirky pen and wash paintings. I love the process of painting and communicating about my painting to visitors and patrons. It is particularly satisfying to observe the reactions my artwork evokes. I often hear that my paintings are so peaceful and that people feel they can “walk right into them”. For an artist, that’s as good as it gets. Bringing joy to others through my art is personally satisfying and enriching.

Joan Cohen Jones

Printmaking is a dynamic and versatile form of artistic expression that bridges tradition and innovation. It allows artists to explore texture and process while communicating powerful ideas and imagery. The actual process is often new to people and hard to describe, but easy to understand if you see the process. I also have combined many other engraving techniques together to create some very unique pieces.

I am a mixed-media collage artist who loves to explore the interplay of color and light. My process involves making designs on tissue paper, which I then cut and paste to create “paintings.” I enjoy engaging with others who are curious about my methods, always happy to respond to the “How did you do that?” question.

I love to share my work and my process with viewers. My work is about climate and the environment and it's always fun to share the experience and the results with people. I will have work at a range of price points and sizes from tiny to full wall sized.

I have been creating art from my home for many years, and would love to share my work and studio with the community.
