2026 Participating Artists

AD Lenhardt has been working with clay professionally for over 30 years. After decades of running studios and helping others create their art, the focus is now on her own work. This opportunity to share space with her long-time friend, Leslie Sobel, and participate in the city wide open studio is an enriching connection to the community.
A passion for both ceramics and watercolour defines her work. Aerial photographs taken on a flight over the surrounding farmland serve as inspiration to create tile work. Using various porcelains and handmade or found tools, she stamps images of local landscapes into the clay. The tiles are then painted with various techniques before the final fire. Her watercolours on paper continue the exploration of color and translucency.

Printmaking is a dynamic and versatile form of artistic expression that bridges tradition and innovation. It allows artists to explore texture and process while communicating powerful ideas and imagery. The actual process is often new to people and hard to describe, but easy to understand if you see the process. I also have combined many other engraving techniques together to create some very unique pieces.

Watercolor has a beauty that is incomparable. It's a give to be able to share my love of the medium and chat with visitors about art's amazing ability to impact our lives for the better.

Ann Arbor Artist, Rocco Pisto earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Eastern Michigan University in 1974 and has been painting for over five decades. He is the current President Emeritus of the Michigan Watercolor Society and holds both a Signature Member and Great Lakes Fellow designation in that group. He also holds membership in the National Watercolor Society, International Society of Experimental Artist (ISEA), the Brighton Art Guild and Chelsea Painters.

Rocco’s artist statement:

“As a painter for over fifty years, I never tire of the experimental process of starting a piece and solving the design problems along the way to make it a finished work. Spontaneity, discovery, individuality, analysis, visual balance, contrast, and contradiction all summarize my thought process. I find that no two paintings are the same, and I cannot paint the same thing twice. My technique of painting abstractly by dripping, pouring, splashing, and brushing paint allows the work to evolve until it meets my criteria of what constitutes a successful piece of art. The adrenaline of marking pristine, white Arches Watercolor paper with paint is a euphoric process that never loses its newness or interest.”
